Counselor-In-Training Program

The Counselor-In-Training (CIT) program is open to applicants who are 15 years old, and have obtained a worker's permit prior to their first day of work. Permits are available from high school guidance offices who work with state Labor departments. A CIT pays 50% of the regular camper tuition which covers room & board, participation in part of the camper program, and participation in the counselor training curriculum. A CIT can also make $14.15 an hour for camp maintenance work.

CIT Duties Include:

• Serving 2 meals per day including every breakfast.
• Supporting the campfire program by being a role model.
• Going to bed at the same time as the campers. Some CITs will be assigned to a cabin of younger campers, and some CITs will be assigned to be in a cabin with 15 year old campers.
• There will be 60 minutes of counselor training meetings per week (usually two meetings of 30 minutes), and individual tutoring done by senior counselors. The meetings and tutorials will help CITs learn how to become effective summer camp counselors.
• During activity periods, CITs will do a combination of participation and assisting the counselors. They will help organize the activity in the beginning, and then help clean up equipment afterwards.
• CITs can also sign up for cleaning and maintenance work that will pay them $14.15 an hour. Each CIT gets to choose how much hourly work for pay they want to do. Some will choose one or two hours per day, and others can choose to work three or four or more hours per day. Work options that pay an hourly wage will include spot cleaning the kitchen, doing laundry, organizing lost & found, or rest hour work projects such as trail clearing. The hourly work choices, and hourly work schedule will be determined in a conversation with the CIT, a parent or guardian, and one of the camp directors.

Cell Phones: CITs are not allowed to bring cell phones to camp. We aim to give CITs the same "unplugged" experience as all other campers and CITs are not granted any special permission to use phones during the week.

To become a CIT this summer please follow the steps below.

1. Register as a camper for the session(s) you will be attending. Note that there is not a separate category to register CIT campers and that we will reduce your tuition through our administrative system when you are accepted as a CIT.
2. Complete a staff application, applying for the CIT "position"
