Peter Slovenski has been the head coach of men’s and women’s cross-country and track & field at Bowdoin College since 1987. His father, Walt Slovenski, was the head coach of cross-country and track at Bates College from 1952 through 1994.
"There is a great spirit of competition, history, and camaraderie in New England college running," said Coach Slovenski. "This alumni running program will be a great opportunity for college runners to renew friendships in a beautiful cross country camp setting."
Coach Slovenski has coached over twenty All-Americans in cross-country and track distance races. Bowdoin All-American runners include 1993 Marshal Scholar Eileen Hunt, 1996 NCAA Division III 5000m champion Darcy Storin, and 2008 cross country All-Americans Thompson Ogilvie and Annie Monjar.
Coach Slovenski graduated from Lewiston High school in 1974. He earned a B.A. in English from Dartmouth College in 1979, and a master’s degree in educational administration from Stanford University in 1980. He was a decathlete and pole vaulter in college, and was selected to the All-Ivy League track & field team as a pole vaulter in 1977.
Connie Putnam was one of the most successful and highly respected coaches in New England during his 21 years as head coach of men's cross-country and track & field at Tufts University. Connie's teams won four New England III championships, and he coached 61 All-American athletes. Connie is admired as a legendary leader, educator, story-teller, and guitar player. He will bring a lot of energy, charisma, humor, and memories to the Alumni Reunuon Running Camp.
