The A Capella Camp is a six day five night program designed to teach campers the
basics of a capella singing. Campers will sing various styles of a capella music, learn
about harmony, and perfect various vocal techniques most often used in choir, and a
capella singing.
A Capella Camp will be directed by Lewiston High School Chorus Director Darren Avery.
Mr. Avery has years of experience singing and teaching singing. He loves to share the gift of
music with his students, and is well known for being one of the most enthusiastic and fun directors
to sing for in the state.
Group practice will take place on our campfire stage ten yards from the lake, where campers will have
a spectacular view of one of the loveliest lakes in Maine, complete with loon and duck families that
frequent the waters right off of the camp beach. Individual instruction sessions will take place
at our woodland stage, where cool breezes off the water drift through the trees.
Campers will have the opportunity to perform at campfires each night
and at a concert for parents at the end of the week.
Campers will participate in vocal instruction during morning and afternoon sessions,
and then be able to swim, canoe, kayak, or play beach volleyball after their instructional periods.
Every
evening concludes with a campfire that features contests, singing,
dancing, awards, recognition, stories, and encouragement for high standards of
outdoor living such as leaving places cleaner than we find them.
Campers will be closely supervised at night by counselors in the cabin and counselors on patrol
between the girls' cabin area and the boys' cabin area and throughout the peninsula.
